Cordoba Guitars was established in 1997 and is based in California. The company, which is known for producing high-quality classical and flamenco guitars, as well as other stringed instruments such as ukuleles and mandolins, was founded with the aim of reviving the classical guitar, which has seen a decline in popularity compared to other types of guitars like acoustic steel-string and electric. Cordoba also offers a range of nylon-string guitars, in addition to its main line of classical and flamenco instruments.

Tim Miklaucic, the CEO of Cordoba, started a project to revitalize the nylon-string guitar by studying the top luthiers and brands in the world. One of the first people he worked with was Edmund Blöchinger, a designer and master builder who was known for using classical methods of Spanish luthiers from the late 19th century. Blöchinger's goal was to apply these techniques in a modern production setting, leading to the creation of the España series of guitars.

Cordoba later partnered with Pepe Romero Jr., a skilled luthier who had developed a unique approach to building ukuleles using classical guitar-making techniques. The traditional ukulele was redesigned as a result, featuring a wider neck for enhanced playability and elegant, high-quality craftsmanship. These features can be seen in Cordoba's 30 Series Ukuleles.
