Bass

The beginnings of the instrument can be found in the mid-1930s in the arenas of jazz, however, it is only when Leo Fender introduced the "Fender Bass" in 1951 that the instrument began to be seriously recognized. The instrument was attractive to the jazz musician and soon appeared in rock n 'roll and country bands , eventually ending up in the emerging Motown sounds. Monk Montgomery (bassist of the jazz great Lionel Hampton), was a pioneer of the instrument by mixing the techniques of double bass and new techniques offered by the instrument.

Today, the bass guitar is the primary bass instrument in most of the ensembles of popular Western culture and has provided a wide range of sounds which go far beyond what the double bass is capable of producing. This instrument has also found its place in other sets classic oriented and also within groups of non-westerners.

5-string bass adds a string to low B (B1 - a fifth lower than the low E string) and 6-string bass guitar adds a string high C (c1 - a fourth higher than the normally higher string) in addition to the low B string.
